BIM for Facilities Management

Recent case studies show that over 70% of the benefits of BIM is realized in the operations phase of a project and savings up to 3% equivalent of life-cycle costs which translates to about 10-20% of operations cost can be achieved through early stage BIM adoption. Facts such as this place BIM on the front burner as a compelling technology that significantly impacts operational expenditure of built industry’s assets and facilities given that operational phase costs can be projected up to three times the construction costs of such projects. The standardization, BIM objects and Libraries that the digital BIM process demands also bring great levels of improvements and efficiency to maintenance operations encountered by Facility Managers. This Panel of experts holistically examine the values, shortfalls and potentials of BIM deployment for the operational phase management of built industry assets.
